AcroTray.exe has stopped working - Terminal environment

$

Considering the terrible way Adobe is reachable for support, I will try it this way with hopefully some results.

Our users have started getting errors using Adobe Reader X after the installation of Adobe Acrobat DC. They are getting the message “Acrotray.exe has stopped working”.

We have paid licenses so would like to request support on this matter seeing it’s AcroTray.exe, component of DC, that generates the error. I will elaborate our environment.

We have a customer with 50+ users who all log in on four Windows 2008 Standard x64 Terminal Servers. On this server they have multiple application like Office,

Adobe Reader X, and many more.

The customer requested to install Adobe Acrobat DC on all four servers next to the existing Adobe Reader X installation. After the deployment of DC, the users were getting

random Acrotray.exe error messages. Some get it when they log in to Windows on the Terminal Server and others get it when generating PDF.

We can’t reproduce the error using a test account on the same server as the users, this test user is a copy of a normal user.

Here are two examples of the Windows Eventlog: Applications.

How to automatically accept EULA using SCCM deployment

I am trying to deploy Adobe Reader XI to our Windows 10 computers using SCCM 2016. I am using the following command in my package

"AcroRdrDC1801120035_en_US.exe" EULA_ACCEPT=YES /qn and while the deployment works and installs Reader, the EULA acceptance doesn't. While

it's only a minor inconvenience, we don't want our users to have to accept the agreement, especially if there is a way to automatically accept it. Can someone please

help me? thanks

Has anybody managed to make msp patch work?

My steps are simply:

Using base MSI from Acrobat 2017 Release (Classic Track base release) — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products  I create GPO to deploy the package. This works just fine. But when I want to do an upgrade:

  1. I copy the original MSI base distribution directory to a new one and give it an appropriate name.
  2. I download MSP file e.g. 17.011.30059 Planned update, August 8, 2017 — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products
  3. I put the MSP to the newly folder with the base MSI and its files
  4. inside that folder I issue msiexec /a AcroRead.msi /p AcroRdr2017Upd1701130059_MUI.msp
  5. I get some gui dialog which I just click through with Next until it is finished.
  6. Then, in the same GPO, I add new Software installation and select the acroread.msi from the new folder.
  7. I click advanced, select Uninstall when falls out of scope and click Upgrade tab, the package is alreade there, I remove it and add again specifically with the option 'Package can upgrade over the existing package' as directed in Group Policy-Active Directory — Enterprise Administration Guide
  8. I add the transformation file as to the base package.
  9. When the GPO is updated and the upgrade installed, I get in event viewer the error:
"Product: Adobe Acrobat Reader 2017 MUI -- Error 1334.The file 'icudt.dll' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'Data1.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."

I tried various MSPs with the same result. One curious issue is that patching with the MSP creates additional folders 'Common', 'Program Files', 'System32'. Does the MSP patching actually work at all? Is there a way to just get an updated MSI without the problematic MSP fiddling?

Does an Acrobat 2017 Customization Wizard exist? (Not for Acrobat DC)

I'm trying to customize a deployment of Acrobat 2017 Standard.

Specifically, I'd like to remove all cloud storage functionality (like the Dropbox integration) for DLP purposes.

I see lots of documentation surrounding the customization of DC deployments but no mention of Acrobat 2017 Standard (or Pro).

Could someone point me to the appropriate downloads and documentation?

Targets for this install will be Windows 10 1703.

Ideally the customized installer would be in a format that can be installed silently.

Thanks!

Updating/Removing Reader DC

Hi all!

We've recently started using Manage Engine as a replacement to WSUS for Windows and 3rd party patches.

One particular patch that we can't install is a critical one for Adobe Reader DC.

We get something along the lines of "Error 1328. Error apply patch to file ****. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch. For more information contact your software vendor."

Ok - so it needs to be installed and updated via the same method - Manage Engine.

So, rather than manually uninstall on 700+ PCs, I attempted to utilize Manage Engine to uninstall from just my PC as a test and got:

"The file system does not support atomic changes to the lock type"

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Unable to open PDFs from network mapped drive

$

Using the latest version of Acrobat DC and unable to open PDFs from a network mapped drive.  The network mapped drive is created by using Cloudberry Lab's Drive and is attached to an Azure blob storage account.  I have added the path to the trusted locations, but still unsuccessful in opening any PDFs.  I also receive the error:  "Adobe Acrobat DC could not open 'filename' because it is either not a supported file type of because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."

Copying files from the network mapped drive location open as expected part of the time.  Some when copied to desktop copy over with 0 bytes and unable to open receiving the error as above, but will eventually reflect the file size, but still not open.  Original files are intact and open as normal with Acrobat DC and Reader XI and DC.

Acrobat is part of my Creative Cloud Suite.  Latest updates installed.  Running on Windows 8.1 with latest updates installed.  Antivirus running is Webroot Secure Anywhere agent.

Azure blob storage settings is set to Public Container as of now.  Have already tested with Private and Public Blob settings.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Can an Adobe Acrobat XI Pro perpetual license be legally used in a terminal server environment or does a different license need to be used?

Thanks in advance.

Supress EULA for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2019 - Macintosh

Hello,

I've been trying to figure out how to accept the EULA on lab deployments of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2019 Macintosh.  It appears that the existing solution for Acrobat Reader DC 2017 isn't working for the 2019 version.

I've tried this suggestion that worked in the 2017 version for my colleagues:

defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Reader '{DC = {EULAAccepted = 1 ; isFirstLaunch = 0;};}'

I've also followed the suggestions in this existing Adobe Forums post which doesn't seem to work either:

Suppress EULA macOS Adobe Reader 2017

Has anyone been successful at mass deploying a EULA accepted Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2019 for Macintosh?

Thanks,

John

How to determine Which Acrobat DC version is installed? Pro or Std

$

I need to track which computers have which version for Licensing and update purposes. I use Dell K1000 for tracking and updating. With Acrobat XI, Pro and Standard had different uninstall registry keys so I was able to track them with a simple check for which registry key was on the computer. They would also show up separately in Dell Case stating Pro or Standard. However, With Acrobat DC the uninstall keys are the same and they both only show up as Acrobat DC in Dell K1000. How does Acrobat DC determine which version is installed and how can I duplicate it so I can count used license and install the correct updates?

Unmatched exit code (1603) is considered an execution failure when i deploy from SCCM 2012 R2

I am trying to deploy the Adobe Acrobat XI through SCCM 2012 R2. I have customized the package with Adobe Customization Wizard XI according to our requirement. In deployment package i am using msiexec /i AcroPro.msi /qn TRANSFORMS=AcroPro.mst /L*V "%temp%\example.log" command but it gets failed on client machine. Since i am running the installation in verbose mode, here is log generated in example.log file.

When i run the same command manually on client machine from elevated command prompt then Adobe Pro get installed successfully. This is what confusing me why it is not installing from SCCM. I am using Domain Admin account in SCCM for deployment so user account privileges should not be an issue.

Disable editing permission on Enhanced Security -> Privileged Locations by GPO

Hi,

I would like to perform the following

- disable the user to open PDF with java script

- but has the option to enable by GPO via AD security group

- The PDF location has to be limited in a specific folder under Enhanced Security -> privilege locations

There are few things I tried but cannot fulfill all the requirements

- First thing I did is to disable JS by the registry key  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\JSPrefs\bEnableJS = DWORD:0

However, this will leave the user the option to select always "enable javascript" under hte YMB (Yellow Message Bar). Then the file can be added to  Security (Enhanced) -> Prileged Locations). The registry key will be added as well, e.g.  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\TrustManager\cTrustedFolders\cAlwaysTrustedForJavaScript\tID = c:\trustedfolder

- To disable the YMB option, I tried to add this registry key to completely disable the add ability by HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown\bDisableTrustedFolders = DWORD: 1

However, this will even override the registry I put under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\TrustManager\cTrustedFolders\cAlwaysTrustedForJavaScript\tID = c:\trustedfolder

The above registry key I aim to just target to select users in AD group and filter by GPO, but will be override.

May I know any option I can fulfill all requirement

Best regards,

Chris

Enhance Security through windows Registry

Hi all,

I want to get your advice about how to manage the following settings.

By default we have implemented through GPO the configuration of Adobe Reader DC that we want to keep on the registry but we are having some issues.

All of them are set to Update and as a REG_DWORD

bEnhancedSecurityInBrowser  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown

bEnhancedSecurityInBrowser  HKEY_CURRENT_USER SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\TrustManager

bEnhancedSecurityInBrowser  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown

bEnhancedSecurityStandalone  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown

bEnhancedSecurityStandalone HKEY_CURRENT_USER SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\TrustManager

bEnhancedSecurityStandalone HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown

bProtectedMode HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown

bProtectedMode HKEY_CURRENT_USER SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\TrustManager

bProtectedMode HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown

iProtectedView HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown

iProtectedView HKEY_CURRENT_USER SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\TrustManager

iProtectedView HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown

This configuration leaves the Reader with the following configuration

Some users are having issue with this configuration so we have decided to let the users modify the settings.

But other issue appears.

How to reproduce:

Start adobe reader – settings – security (enhanced)  uncheck “Enable Protected Mode at startup”

No problem so far, then force a GPupdate /force – this then activates the settings

unnamed.png

Protected View:  “Files from potentially unsafe locations”   and keeps the “Enable Protected mode at startup “ un checked = this setting is a Unsupported configuration (https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AppSec/protectedmode.html)

That situation will cause the error below. As soon a pdf file is launched from a potential unsafe location. (= any pdf file from the Internet)

unnamed (1).png

I believe we should ensure that we cannot fall into a unsupported configuration =

When  “Enable Protected Mode at startup” is unchecked – then Protected View:  must be set on Off

This issue will only be experienced when a User is unchecking “Enable Protected Mode at startup” but once this is done and the next GPO Update appears these Users will have an error.

Any advice will be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards.

The new Save As is clunky and takes way to many steps to do a simple Save As. Is there any way to get rid of it and use the standard Windows one?

Hello Community,

I have a Problem with the Default Settings from the Adobe Acrobat DC.

I would like to install Adobe Acrobat DC Reader in the company. However, this should not be set as standard. How can I set this via cmd or registry that does not set this to default during installation or in later?

Thank you for your help.

Deploying Adobe DC with SCCM

Hi,

I have logged in to Admin Console and went to packager to create an Adobe DC package with Adobe Creative Cloud.

I have downloaded the package and tried to run setup.exe --silent but get an error message that setup doesn't accept arguments.

I have tried to create a package in SCCM from the MSI in the Build folder but when i deploy the package only Adobe Creative Cloud is installed

I also found there is another set of setup.exe and msi under Build\Setup\APRO18.0\Adobe Acrobat so I am not sure which one I should use for creating my SCCM package, the doc says to use the one from the Build folder, but SCCM reports a successful installation while no Acrobat DC is present on my test computer

Telling the difference between Standard and Pro

Hello,

I have to hand it to Adobe - I've never come across and application that sells 2 separate versions, with a cost difference of over $100, that they intentionally made it nearly impossible to distinguish between one another.

We use SCCM, and from what I can tell, Adobe Acrobat DC Pro & Standard both have the same GUID, version number, and display name.  How in the world are we supposed to accurately track our licenses?  We use ServiceNow's Software Asset Management module, integrated with SCCM, to manage software licenses.  It can't tell a difference, and even I as a human, and a 10 year IT Pro, can't either.

Can someone please tell me how I am to accurately manage my Acrobat DC software licenses?

Thank you
