Prevent Acrobat update from installing the Chrome extension

$

Hi all,

It appears the latest Acrobat update installs an extension for Google Chrome. Is there any way to prevent this?

I am aware that it would be possible to block the extension using the "Configured extension blacklist" Google Chrome group policy, but I don't want to block it entirely, just prevent it from installing automatically.

How to Integrate Adobe Updates and Microsoft WSUS

My environment implemented strict UAC policies. This hinders users from Installing updates. Is it possible to centrally manage updates through WSUS. If not, are there tools to manage Adobe Updates centrally?

adobe dc pro install patch update to customized install

We are using a stand alone version of Adobe DC Pro (15.006.30033.2205) (no other Adobe products).  Windows 7 32-bit environment.  I have used the Adobe customization tool to create a custom install package.  I now need to update this package with the latest patch from Adobe to correct a recent security patch.

Ideally I'd like to make a new customized installer package as this allows us to disable the Adobe Sign-In feature, which our agency will never use.

I am trying to use:  msiexec /i acropro.msi PATCH="Acrobat2015Upd1500630280.msp" TRANSFORMS="AcroPro.mst"

The .mst file was created by the customization tool.  However, when I run this command, I get the error:

"This patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."

I have attempted uninstall and reboot and cleaning the registry of previous installation of Adobe DC Pro without any luck.

Can someone provide guidance on how to create a new customized install with the latest patch and still have the Adobe Sign-In option disabled?

How to determine Which Acrobat DC version is installed? Pro or Std

I need to track which computers have which version for Licensing and update purposes. I use Dell K1000 for tracking and updating. With Acrobat XI, Pro and Standard had different uninstall registry keys so I was able to track them with a simple check for which registry key was on the computer. They would also show up separately in Dell Case stating Pro or Standard. However, With Acrobat DC the uninstall keys are the same and they both only show up as Acrobat DC in Dell K1000. How does Acrobat DC determine which version is installed and how can I duplicate it so I can count used license and install the correct updates?

I would like to install Adobe Acrobat DC Reader in the company. However, this should not be set as standard. How can I set this via cmd or registry that does not set this to default during installation or in later?

How to Remove Register Your Product With Customization Wizard?

Hi Folks,

I'm trying to deploy Acrobat XI Pro with Group Policy to Windows 7 64 bit desktops on our domain.

It appears the GPO installed it on my test box but Acobat launches a 'Register Your Product' splash screen when it starts.   Have I missed something in the Adobe Customization Wizard XI?   I've entered the serial number and surpressed the EULA option.

Thanks

Deploy and patch Reader via GPO

So here's the huge problem - I want to deploy a patched Adobe X1 via group policy

NOt exactly ground breaking stuff ist it. And yet this complex procedure is fraught with problems.

Firstly I really struggle with Adobe's not simply doling out MSI's for any update. It really complicates things no-end.

Anyway, Here's what I understand the procedure to be.

1 Download the msi, - ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.00/

2 Msiexec -a it extract it to a folder

3 Download the patch - ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.22/misc/

4 msiexec -a -p  tpatch.msp to patch msi in step 2

5 Run customisation wizard against the patched msi from step 4

6 Copy transform to folder

7 Point GP at a share and deploy using the transform from step 6

Fails on step 4.

The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the programme to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the programme. Verify the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and you have the correct upgrade patch

So try another patch

This folder ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.21/misc/ has 2 msp files.

Redo steps 1- 4 with this AdbeRdrUpd11021_MUI.msp- which failed to patch.

Redo steps 1 - 4 with AdbeRdrUpd11021.msp which seemed to patch ok,

However I fail on step 5 - Setup.ini is missing apparently.

Created an empty ini file and redid steps 1 -5 , but no joy. Still missing an ini file.

Can someone detail the correct procedure to get a usable msi that I can run the customisation wizard against so I can deploy this.

Thank you.

Pushing out Updates for Adobe Reader Products via MDM

Hi all,

We are running Microsoft Intune as an MDM and we are managing a couple of hundred Windows 10 devices with it. Users do not have local administrator access, so cannot install updates themselves.

We are able to deploy the base versions of Adobe Reader (11.0.0 or 10.0.0) without any issues (by uploading the MSIs to Intune and deploying that way), however because of the way the updates are packaged (as an MSI that calls an MSP file) we are not able to push out these updates - Intune does not support EXE or MSP files.

I would appreciate any assistance you can provide with this, due to the distribution of our users (international) we are not able deploy this from a common network location, and from what I have seen Intune does not support this in any case.

Thanks in advance

Volume licensing of Reader DC when installed via PDQ Deploy or Desktop Central

$

Hello,

I am an IT admin for the company I work for.   Some of our end-user employees use Reader.  We wanted to by default install this software on new computers we assign to users, but our company lawyer does not like a certain provision of the Volume Distribution License for Reader, therefore we have to direct our users to Adobe's website to download/install the software instead of the IT Department installing it on new computers for users.    We are not redistributing outside of our company in any way.  Only getting it installed on employee workstation computers.

I got to thinking though.  What about system administration products out there like PDQ Deploy, Desktop Central, Ninite, etc which allows an admin to automatically take the prepackaged app and deploy it to a computer on their LAN, and keep that product updated?   For those products, I don't we would technically be downloading Reader and providing it to users.  Those products either come with it or you click a button that goes and downloads the master copy which can be deployed.    To me it looks like PDQ/Desktop Central/Ninite are the ones downloading and distributing the software.  I just tell them what machines to send it to.

Have the companies behind those products gone through the volume distribution license process and therefore we can use those products without having to go with any special licensing ourselves?

Based on the licensing for Reader DC, to be on the up and up, do we need to in anyway license anything with Adobe or do anything to be compliant if I installed the software via one of these utilities?

Thanks.

Hello

I try to install Acrobat Pro DC on VMware Horizon 7 VDI.

The establishment on the mother works perfectly.

I try to deploy it on the other VDI with a VMware Thinapp application. Deployment OK, but when I launch the application from the VDI, I get this error :

I don't have this problem on the mother.

I have already contacted the adobe Support on the chat and on the phone, and They were not able to help me.

VDI runs on Windows seven sp1, it's VMware Horizon 7.2, and VMware Thinapp 5.2.2.

Adobe Reader DC über SCCM

Guten Morgen,

How to remove "add account" in Reader DC

$

I am testing new package deployments of Adobe Reader DC prior to releasing it.

I have used the customization tool for Adobe Reader DC to create a MST file so its a tailored install. The only thing it seems is, I can not alter or remove is the "add account" for Microsoft Share-Point.

At this time our organization does not have Share-Point and possibly not anytime soon.

How can I remove/disable that option? I would rather not spend the administrative overhead on training end user to ignore that it exists.

How to update or patch Adobe Reader DC without local admin rights

$

We are about to deploy Adobe Reader DC in an enterprise environment where none of the users has local admin rights on their desktops.  Updating and patching typically requires that users are local administrators on their PC, but that is not allowed in this corporate environment.  If set to install updates automatically, do you know if Adobe Reader DC updates & patches will get installed on these computers?  If not, is there any other way to get these updates installed, either by using an Adobe tool or otherwise a 3rd party solution?

Cannot ENABLE SharePoint Integration.

Our organization has a Sharepoint 2013 deployment and uses Acrobat Pro XI.  We use document libraries with with check in/check out and verioning enabled.  When opening a PDF from within a library, the document opens in Acrobat without issue but we do not receive any prompts to check the document out.  This prevents us even from manually checking out the document in sharepoint, opening the document, saving the document back to sharepoint because Acrobat tries to save it to a local AppData Temp directory.   I've seen a thousand answered posts about how to DISABLE SharePoint integration, but I'm just looking to get this functionality in the first place.  The problem could be related to a SharePoint setting but I cannot cind such a setting.  Our office documents prompt for checkout when opened as they should - Just not PDFs.

***Some additional information:  From Acrobat, if I click  File>Open, then select "open from online account"  and connect to my sharepoint server I can check in and out, but some of our libraries are over 9GB and cause Acrobat to crash every time I try to open the library, so this is apparently not an option for us (although it would be nice!!!).

Thanks!

Acrobat Reader DC SCCM Deployment - Error Code 0x673(1651)

I'm trying to create a deployment via SCCM of the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC for our organization, and I'm having some difficulty getting it to work properly.  Here are the steps I've taken:

  • Downloaded the executable for version 2017.012.20093 from Adobe's enterprise webpage and the patch for the latest release (2017.012.20098).
  • Extracted the executable to a new folder.
  • Opened the "AcroRead.msi" in Adobe Customization Wizard DC, customized the installer to my desired settings, and generated a transforms file named "AcroRead.mst" to the extracted folder.
  • Removed the "AcroRdrDCUpd1701220093.msp" from the extracted folder and replaced it with "AcroRdrDCUpd1701220098.msp".
  • Modified "setup.ini" as follows:
  • Copied the files to my SCCM application deployment share, which contains the following files:
  • Created a device collection and application in SCCM, distributed the content to my distribution points and deployed it.
  • The command line is as follows:
    • msiexec /i "AcroRead.msi" TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst" PATCH="\\<Deployment Share File Path>\AcroRdrDCUpd1701220098.msp" /q
  • Installation via SCCM is successful, but only on workstations that have a previously installed version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.  Deployments to workstations that do not currently have an Adobe Reader program installed fail with the following error message:
  • Which translates to:
  • This tells me that my application is only installing the patch (AcroRdrDCUpd1701220098.msp) instead of the .msi followed by the .msp.  As such, the installed application does not include the custom settings which I configured for it in the AcroRead.mst.
  • I also tried running "setup.exe" from an administrative command prompt on my local machine, but it produced this error message:

I'd really appreciate any help or advice.

Need to disable update notifications for reader and flash player

$

Hopefully I'm asking this question in the right place.   Please direct me if I'm not.

Due to some issues with alot of our applications that are web-enabled and rely in IE.  When are 1500+ users get prompted to up date reader or flash player they do not understand to turn off the 'optional' check mark to download and install chrome.

This cause multiple helpdesk calls as their web-enabled apps do not work correctly in chrome.

We had found documention: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_Updater.pdf

to disable the update notifications, however  checking both xp and win7 machines, the key mentioned on page 16  of the pdf mentioned above, did not exist in HKLM, but did find it in HKCU.   Tried to create the iCheck and iCheckReader in both places but not sure if they are actually working.

Here is our actual goal:  We just don't want users prompted to update reader or flash player because of the chrome install.   We don't want reader or flash to update 'automatically'; We still want the ability to update it manually.

How can we turn off any auto update functionality, and prompting of updates so users never see them in both apps?

We currently have users with reader, 8, 9 and 10.

if you can provide documentation, detailed steps, registry keys, etc.  I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Chad
