Let printer determine colors Global Setting

$

Enabling the "Let printer determine colors" option when printing fixes an issue we are having with PDF's printing very slowly. We are wanting to deploy this fix to 100's of PCs and are wanting to know if there is a way to do this. Currently we are fixing this issue as people complain about it.

I have been able to determine the location of this setting in the registry as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\Originals\sPrinterSpace

This value is unfortunately set for the current user and varies by which user is logged into a PC. Is there a global value we can change, or is there a setting we can change during install using the Acrobat Customization Wizard?

Thank you for any help with this issue.

The following error is produced in Acrobat when trying to click version history documents in SharePoint 2010. "The URL you have provided could not be reached. Please verify that the URL is correct and that the network location is reachable." The revision of the document is reachable, but through typical HTTP via a web browser...but not through the SharePoint <==> Acrobat X Pro COM object magic that works fine for currently checked out documents. Please see inserted image. Thoughts on a fix?

[Acrobat Reader DC] HKCU registry keys are not replicated for each user as for Adobe Reader

$

For Adobe Reader, all the registry keys which are added with the Adobe Customization Wizard are automatically added to each user. Unfortunately, it is not the same with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

They registry keys have to be stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\2015\Installer\Migrate to be automatically added in the HKCU of the user at its first launch of the application. But they are stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\[RegistryHiveName]\Installer\Migrate, as we can see on the screenshot below:

reg.PNG

The problem is probably coming from one of the custom actions. The variable RegistryHiveName is not translated. I didn't make a lot of research, but waiting on a solution from Adobe, I made a PowerShell script which move the registry keys to the correct place:

Move-Item -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\`[RegistryHiveName`]\Installer\Migrate\*' -Destination 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\2015\Installer\Migrate' -force

(PowerShell has to be executed in 32 Bits)

If Adobe can correct it in the next version, it would be nice !

AcroPDF.dll

In a VS 2017 Winforms VB application dealing with package designs, predominatly based on PDF files, I felt the need to provide a preview of those files in several points along the workflow.
At first I used a third-party component, but in some cases the designers created one or more hidden layers in the PDF files and they were all made visble by the component, obviously creating some confusion.
In the begining of April I decided to use the Adobe ActiveX control instead, with good results since then ( AcroPDF.dll, which in my Windows 10 machine the Acrobat Reader DC installer placed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX ).
However, yesterday I had to make a slight change in a form ( not related with PDF files ), deployed the application, and a few hours later some users reported an exception in several forms using the PDF viewer ( "Could not load file or assembly 'AxInterop.AcroPDFLib', Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral"... ).
At first I thought I could have inadvertently modified the list of deployed files, but both AxInterop.AcroPDFLib.dll.deploy and Interop.AcroPDFLib.dll.deploy were included, and besides I had no problems with the PDF viewer in my computer.
The only significant note I can remember is that there was an apparently large security update of Acrobat Reader DC a few days earlier ( and at least two or three VS updates since the last time I had to deploy a new version of my application ). Besides that, the customer's computers run Windows 8, but I until now it didn't seem to matter.

An extensive Google search on the issue failed to provide any clue, so at this point I can't even identify the source of the problem, much less a solution for it.
Does anybody know what might be going on ?
Thanks.

I'm looking for the LEID for Acrobat Standard 2017 to run some prtk commands.  I found the LEID for "DC Classic track 2017", but am unsure if it's the same as "Acrobat Standard 2017".  Any ideas?

I have a citrix streamed vhd environment and I have created a install msi and also ran the aobe_prtk command to stop the adobe acrobat from asking to login. I have a product ID that is valid. The program no matter what I do still asks the users to login.

Creating a custom dictionary for Acrobat and Reader.

$

I want to create a custom dictionary to be used by all of our users when they access a “forms document” through Adobe Reader/Acrobat.

Here are some of the issues:

The default dictionary name under Custom Dictionaries has a .clam extension.

Is there a way to edit this?

Does it contain the index settings for all the other added.txt and excluded.txt dictionary files?

The Reader's default location is under a user’s LocalLow folder.

C:\Users\PIN\ AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Linguistics\Dictionaries\Adobe Custom Dictionary.

The Acrobat default location is under the user's Roaming folder.

C:\Users\PIN\ AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Linguistics\Dictionaries\Adobe Custom Dictionary\.

This is buried under the users profile and we need to be able to update these files on all the user’s workstations prior to log on.

This could be done by redirection of the new custom dictionary. What is the location of that setting in the registry?

Is there is a way to append to the standard dictionary file so as not to replace any setting that a user may have made to the dictionary?

Is this done to the .clam or .txt file outside of the Adobe Reader application?

What is the “All” setting in the dictionary?

Does that imply the program will look through all the dictionaries?

Is there a way to create a new dictionary name that would appear under the preferences\spelling\dictionaries list. Is there an Index file that would point to a newly created Dictionary folder?

How can I disable all online functionality within FormsCentral using Adobe Acrobat Customization?

I would like to either install FormsCentral and have all online functionality disabled, or install FormsCentral but have it disabled until a users requests it (an admin could come and enable it through Options).  When I disable all online services from within Adobe Customization Wizard XI it does not remove the online functionality within FormsCentral.

Thanks for the help!

Acrobat Reader DC and Adobe Acrobat DC Cleaner Tool has stopped working...

$

I am in the process configuring an uninstaller for Adobe Reader in case we have failed installation within our company.  I found your cleaner tool, which is exactly what I needed!

However, after the tool completes the uninstall process (logs have finished being written), it crashes.  I have tested this on multiple computers.  Even if I run the tool without any adobe software installed, whenever it completes and you hit "Finish", it crashes.  If I run it silently, it crashes.

My machine is a Precision 3520 with Windows 10 1709.  However, this happened with a VM running 1709 as well.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Problems deploying Adobe Reader DC GPO

Hi,

I'm trying to deploy Adobe Reader DC thru GPO. I've downloaded the package, take the msi, include the updates and customizing the installation with Adobe Customization Wizzard DC. I put it on a GPO and it installs right the first time. If I remove Acrobat reader DC and install again, it will not be installed again on the next restart.

If I try to install old version to know if it does the installation right uninstalling previous versions, it uninstalls old version but not install new one.

Can you help me? It's something strange, we have another GPOs for another software and we have not this kind of prroblems.

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

AcroTray.exe has stopped working - Terminal environment

Considering the terrible way Adobe is reachable for support, I will try it this way with hopefully some results.

Our users have started getting errors using Adobe Reader X after the installation of Adobe Acrobat DC. They are getting the message “Acrotray.exe has stopped working”.

We have paid licenses so would like to request support on this matter seeing it’s AcroTray.exe, component of DC, that generates the error. I will elaborate our environment.

We have a customer with 50+ users who all log in on four Windows 2008 Standard x64 Terminal Servers. On this server they have multiple application like Office,

Adobe Reader X, and many more.

The customer requested to install Adobe Acrobat DC on all four servers next to the existing Adobe Reader X installation. After the deployment of DC, the users were getting

random Acrotray.exe error messages. Some get it when they log in to Windows on the Terminal Server and others get it when generating PDF.

We can’t reproduce the error using a test account on the same server as the users, this test user is a copy of a normal user.

Here are two examples of the Windows Eventlog: Applications.

Prevent Acrobat update from installing the Chrome extension

$

Hi all,

It appears the latest Acrobat update installs an extension for Google Chrome. Is there any way to prevent this?

I am aware that it would be possible to block the extension using the "Configured extension blacklist" Google Chrome group policy, but I don't want to block it entirely, just prevent it from installing automatically.
