Error 1334 during install

Recently I created an installation of Adobe Acrobat 7.05. I installed Adobe Acrobat 7.0 to an Admin Install Point. Then I updated the install point with the 7.05 update. Then I used the InstallShield Tuner 7.0 for Adobe Acrobat to create an install package for Adobe Acrobat 7.05. I did this same thing with Reader and Elements and they all worked just fine. However, during the installation of Adobe Acrobat 7.05, I receive the following error: "Error 1334: The file 'AcroIF.dll' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet file 'Data1.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with the package." I looked in the Data1.cab file and AcroIF.dll is not in there. However, I cannot find this file anywere. I even searched on a system that has Acrobat 7.0 installed. I tried to search for this file on the Internet and came up with no results. Has anyone seen this error before? I cannot figure out how to fix this issue.

Have the right Comment pane be the default instead of the Tools pane

I'm cross posting this from my other post, found here. Since I don't think the Quick Tools bar can be customized in Reader XI, my main question is:

Can you change which "pane" is selected on the right side when Reader XI is launched?

I'm not 100% sure if pane is the right term, but when you open Reader XI, Tools, Sign, and Comment are shown on the right side. Later, if you open a PDF, Extended is also shown. Right now, Tools is always open when you open a PDF, or open Reader XI. If I can't customize the Quick Tools, at least I should be able to tell Reader which right-side pane to default to when Reader is opened, shouldn't I?

Again, searching the Preference Reference doesn't turn up anything definitive. A few entries looked slightly promising, bcommentPanelOnImportbeing one of them, but no matter the combination, Tools always defaults when Reader is opened.

So, to get more specific,

Can I have the Comment pane open by default when Reader XI is launched, as opposed to the Tools pane?

Thanks again in advance.

Acrobat / Reader XI asian language support

Hello,

actually I´m creating install packages with the Customization Wizard for Acrobat and Reader XI.

For Acrobat and Reader X we had some issues with viewing chinese documents and because of that we had to install the Asian Language Support in the category "Features" as shown below:

(Screen from Customization Wizard X)

asian_lang_supp.jpg

Now with Customization Wizard XI this features are no longer available:

asian_lang_supp_2.jpg

Are this features now basically integrated with XI or what do I have to do?

Thanks and regards

Hi

We are trying to update all acrobat products (Adobe Reader/ Acrobat and Flash) through SCCM and SCUP. We have a few concerns as

a) Do a security update removes all old versions from system and updates to the latest version?

b) Do a upgrade (reader 11) uninstalls all older versions and also whether it support a fresh installatin?

Looking for your valuable suggestions

Has anyone ever seen this = I created a .mst using the Adobe customization tool. When I run the acropro.msi with the TRANSFORMS=ACROPRO.MST it ignores my serial number. I get the company name and organization name but the serial number is  blank. The installations are failing as soon as I click next with a blank serial number.

Landesk Adobe patching problem

Hi

I;m in need of a bit of help. I deceided to try patching upgrades to Adobe Reader using Landesk patches. The patches fail and Adobe Reader has dissapeared from the pcs it was installed on. Its running on Windows 7 64bit.

The two patches that I ran were amongst 22 other patches for various other products.

Running patch AdbeRdr11000_en_US.exe

Installing patch 18 out of 22 patches

     Failed

Running patch AdbeRdrUpd11004.msp

Installing patch 19 out of 22 patches

     Failed

Except for the entry in the Landesk log, where can I see what the reason for the patches failure is? I suspect it could be a proxy issue.

If I try to install Adobe Reader manually now, the shortcut appears for a couple of seconds on the desk top and the dissapears.

Mike

Acrobat X Pro via GPO, uninstall/upgrade requires admin rights

$

We've been deploying and updating Reader via GPO for years, but this is the first time we've done Acrobat.  The steps I've done:

1) Created AIP from 10.0 download

2) Patched it to 10.1.4

3) Customised with Wizard (added site licence, disabled acrobat.com etc)

4) Published via GPO with generated mst.

5) Apparently successfully installed via Control Panel with non-admin user.  The application seems to work fine.

6) Tried to uninstall via Control Panel and was asked for local administrator credentials, the message being that the installation msi (on the installation network share) needed to make changes.  Note: the tick box for cache installation files locally is checked in the customisation wizard.

This is a problem in itself but perhaps more importantly, it will prevent future updates.  To test this I did:

7) To a clean machine deployed 10.0.0 with the same .mst

8) Published 10.1.4 as an update to 10.0.0

9) Tried to update 10.0.0 10.1.4 as a non-admin user via Control Panel.  The update failed as uninstalling 10.0.0 required admin rights to uninstall.

10)  Tried the same but assigning the packages (as we would do for lab machines).  The update failed with the event log showing the problem that 10.0.0 couldn't be uninstalled due to lack of admin privileges.

I've never had this problem with Reader, or indeed any other package deployed via GPO, since of course Windows Installer is running as a privileged user.  Can anybody advise as to why Acrobat is requesting admin credentials, or point out where I'm going wrong in the installation process?  Obviously there must be thousands of you out there deploying Acrobat X Pro via GPO successfully to users without admin rights on their machines.

Many thanks

Phil

Update:

I've just tried publishing a vanilla 10.0.0 version (no .mst).  It again installs fine, but the uninstall requests admin credentials so that the install msi on the network share my 'make changes to this computer'.  One thing I do note is that the verified publisher of the app is given as unknown.

Update 2:

I need to revise my statement that the install is OK.  Although the app seems to fire up OK from the desktop, the icons are not correct and the shortcuts on the start menu do not function correctly, giving errors in the logs along the lines of ID 1001 Detection of product '{AC76BA86-1033-F400-7760-000000000005}', feature  'ViewerProgramFiles' failed during request for component '{ etc.

Running the installer from a startup script does result in a correctly installed app, icons and all.  Whilst that is interesting, since we manage all our installs and upgrades via GPO (and we want to publish this not assign it), it is not a solution.  Hasn't anyone seen anything like this before?

Adobe Acrobat X Pro - Windows Terminal Server 2008

Hi All,

Im hoping some one maybe able to help me on this, We have recently purchased the Adobe Acrobat X Pro for one of our clients and have just installed it onto their Windows 2008 x32 Terminal server. Inatall appeared to be fine, no errors reported and nothing logged into the event viewer. However we seem to be having issues with it... I did read a PDF guide early last week that said the X Pro should work fine on a Server 2008 - The install instructions where rather straight forward and I thought their would have been more to it than just installing it via the control panel.

The issue we have is the program opens up ok and is usable for about a min and it then crashes with no obvious reason, From looking in the event log it appears to report issues with the PDApp.exe and the Kernel32.dll - Has anyone come across any similar issues?

Many Thanks

WinXP - Recurring Error: 16

$

Hey All,

We've been deploying Adobe products utilizing group policy software installations; in the past, we've only had Flash and Reader deployed in this way. Recently our division got volume licensing for Acrobat, so we've been starting to roll that out. While the installation more-or-less works with Vista/7, we've hit a big snag on our XP machines.

Acorbat appears to install just fine via GPO but, on about half of the XP boxes, Acrobat closes right after you try to open a PDF and displays an error 16. It seems like Acrobat will work for a user at first but, as soon as the user logs in to the comp a second time, error 16 comes back with a vengance. There are a couple other posts on here depicting this error, but none of their solutions work in our enviroment. Some of the things we've tried:

  • Verifying permissions - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/827/cpsid_82744.html
    • Tried changing permissions on just those individual folders and their entire containers - neither worked
    • Whenever I uncheck the 'read-only' box and hit apply, it gives me an 'access denied' error on a few files. Then, if I open the properties window again, the 'read-only' box is re-checked, though it's a full box, not a checkmark.
  • Reinstall
    • Tried uninstalling Acrobat completely and reinstalling via...
      • GPO
      • Un-customized .msi (we typically apply an MST to the GPO)
      • The original disc
    • Tried uninstalling ALL Adobe products, then installing JUST Acrobat in the three ways described above.
      • Sidenote - if you've never tried to completely uninstall an adobe product, you're in for a treat - there are little bits of Adobe lying ALL OVER the system drive. Does anyone know of a solid method that will actually work to remove Adobe's residuals? Even their Flash uninstaller leaves Flashy crap behind.
    • In all of these instances Acrobat will work again, but only for the first time a user logs in. After they log out of that comptuer and back in, the configuration error pops right back up.

I'm at my wit's end on this and would seriously appreciate any ideas. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Does anybody have some more options we can try out?

Thank you all so much for reading,

Jake

Group Policy Deployment Acrobat Standard XI Version 11

$

I was able to successfully create a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Group Policy that would be able to distribute the Adobe Reader Application using the Adobe Customization Wizard XI. I tried to use the same procedure from the Adobe Acrobat Standard 11 download from the adobe licensing site and was unable to get the Group Policy to work. The error message that I am getting is...

The install of application Adobe Acrobat XI Standard 11.0 from policy  Deploy Adobe Acrobat 11 failed. The error was : %%1603

This is the procedure that I created for deployment of Adobe Acrobat XI using Group Policy.

How to create a group policy deployment of Adobe Acrobat XI

Overview:

This procedure covers the steps needed to create a group policy that will deploy the Adobe Acrobat installation.

Requirements

•    Windows 2008 Group Policy

•    Adobe Acrobat Customization Wizard

     o    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/11.x/11.0.00/misc/CustWiz11000_en_US.exe

•    Adobe Acrobat XI (Version 11)

     o    download from adobe account

Procedure:

1.    Download the Adobe Acrobat XI package.

2.    Extract the contents of the Adobe Acrobat XI package.

a.    Type msiexec.exe /a AcroStan.msi

b.    Click Next

c.    Put in the Network Location Share where everyone can extract the installation.

d.    Click Install

e.    The package will then extract to the network location as indicated above.

f.    Click Finish, once the installation has completed.

g.    Open the Adobe Customization XI Wizard, and customize the package by selecting the AcroStan.msi file.

h.    Customize the AcroStan.MSI installation file

i.    Default viewer of PDF files: Make Acrobat the Default PDF Viewer

ii.    Remove previous versions of Acrobat

iii.    Run Installation: Silently

iv.    If reboot is required at the end of installation: Suppress reboot

i.    Shortcuts: Remove the desktop Shortcut

j.    Online and Adobe Services: Disable Product Improvement Program: checked.

k.   Generate Transform File

i.    Click Transform > Generate Transform File

ii.   Create an Setup.Ini file in the folder of the Distribution Package.

iii.  Name the Transform File something useful like “CompanyConfigs”.

3.    Create a Group Policy to deploy the software package. It is usually best to have a group policy for each software installation package.

a.    Update the Domain Default Policy with Always install with elevated privileges. This will allow all software deployment packages to install.

i.    Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Installer > Always install with elevated privileges : Enabled.

b.  Create a Group Policy to enable Windows 7 Verbose Mode

i.    Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > Verbose vs normal status messages : Enabled.

c.    Create a Group Policy for the Software Installation

i.     Computer Configuration > Policies > Software Settings

ii.    Right click and select New > Package

iii.   Click the AcroRead.msi

iv.   Click Advanced

v.    Click the Modifications Tab and click Add

vi.   Optional: Click the Uninstall this application when it falls out of the scope of management.

Note: This setting can be used to uninstall the application if the group policy ever changes in that the application should be removed.

vii.    The package is now created …

4.    Test the Client in a Virtual Machine

a.    Go to a windows client and run “gpupdate /force”.

b.    The system will then respond that it needs to restart the computer.

c.    Type Yes, and allow the computer to reboot.

d.    If Group Policy is not setup to allow for verbose messages in Windows 7 then the user will just see “Please wait…”, if verbose message is enabled the user will see “Installing Adobe Acrobat…”.

Can someone please tell me what I am missing to get the group policy deployed? It has the same permissions as the Adobe Reader folder and I have done everything exactly the same, except that Adobe Standard has the license number, and owner information included in the Transform file (.mst).

Thank you.

Adobe Reader / Pro XI bug with PDF as embedded object in Microsoft Excel

We are using Adobe Reader and Adobe Pro version 11.0.06, Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, with a mixture of MS Office 2010 and 2013.

We have been able to reproduce a bug using Reader/Pro together with Excel, where Reader/Pro freezes when we preform the following tasks.

  1. Open an Excel file where a PDF file is attached as an object in the spreadsheet
  2. Double click and open the PDF file attached, PDF is opened in Adobe Reader/Pro
  3. From Adobe Reader/Pro, click on the document on the Page Thumbnails, scroll the document up and down for a few times
  4. Close the Adobe Reader/Pro, it freezes and the adobe process is starting to consume the system memory

This problem is happening on multiple machines with Adobe Reader/Pro 11.0.06 installed, regardless of the Office version and is reproducible. We did not see such issue on Adobe X.

Is there anyone reported the same?

Hi - Is it possible to disable or remove these for evey user? We use Adobe Reader X. I've read a few blogs saying you should use a JavaScript but the ones I've found don't work with this version. Doesn't look like they can be removed using the registry either and even AppSense can't lock them both out. The reason for doing this is that it sometimes hangs Outlook to the point where we have to kill it in task manager.

Problem with the Enterprise version of Adobe Reader 10.1.3

I tried deploying the 10.1.3 in the way I successfully deployed 1.1 and 1.2, but kept getting errors about a transform on install. I tried installing the patched MSI without any transforms, but still got the error. Then I tried running the download straight from the enterprise distribution link, but that didn't work either, even on a computer without Adobe Reader installed.

I think there might be something wrong with the enterprise distribution.

Adobe Customization Wizard X doesn't set Adobe Reader X to be default when customizing Acrobat X

I've recently started working with Adobe Customization Wizard X.

I've got Adobe Reader X customized and it's already installed all computers. Now, I'm working on customizing Adobe Acrobat X. During the customization, I only have the following 2 options:

1. Installer will decide which product will be the default

2. Make Acrobat the default PDF viewer

Choosing the 1st option, makes Acrobat as the default PDF viewer. In other words, I don't get an option to keep Adobe Reader X as the default on the existing computer.

Found a blog in Adobe site which suggests running Adobe Reader installation again after Acrobat is installed. Although it works, it just isn't a good solution (my opinion).

http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfitmatters/2011/03/installing-acrobat-x-and-reader-x-on-the-same- machine.html

Can you advise what're the registry setting that I can set during the Acrobat X customization so that it doesn't become the default PDF viewer.

Parvez

Adobe Reader Customization uninstall previous versions

Hello, I deployed Adobe Reader XI through Group Policy, Windows Server 2003. I used the Adobe Reader XI Customization Tool, and created a transform. I left the option checked to uninstall previous versions of Reader. Adobe Reader XI installed with all other settings configured properly that were created in the transform; however, the previous version, Adobe Reader X, did not uninstall. Has anyone experience this issue? If so, how did you get the other version of Adobe uninstalled?

How to Disable Updates in Adobe Acrobat Standard

About 8 months ago we installed about 40+ Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.0 installations throughout our environment.  We then have had the time to create a completely hands free installation .msi that disables the AutoUpdate feature and a configures a few more items.

My question is:

How can I disable the AutoUpdate feature on Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.0 without having to go into the Edit>Preferences Menu and deselect it?

Thanks for your time.
