How can I get the number of activation made using my product key

I purchased a license for our organization but our IT team did not manually track the number of activation made using our key. How can I get the number of activation made using our product key?

acrodist.exe starting on its own and continuously hogging 1 cpu core

$

In our enterprise environment we have noticed on multiple machines acrodist.exe (Acrobat Distiller) is randomly maxing out 1 CPU core. So on dual-core machine there is 50% utilisation, quad-core 25% utilisation, octa-core 12.5% cpu utilisation.

This is even when the end-user is not using any Acrobat or PDF related applications. Upon investigation using Process Explorer we have noticed approx. 10 minutes after first bootup, for some reason acrotray.exe calls Distiller (acrodist.exe) under the users context using the following command line:

acrodist /N /P --UseSystemFonts /Q:15

The acrodist.exe process then proceeds to run indefinitely maxing out 1 CPU core until it is manually terminated from task manager.

Using help files I know what the switch parameters /N (new instance of Distiller) and /Q:15 (quit after 15 seconds of completion) do but I cant figure out what /P --UseSystemFonts is asking Distiller to do. Anyone got any ideas? Our theory is that is getting stuck trying to process a font but no idea which one. Any help would be much appreciated.

We've tried to analyse the process threads using Process Explorer and Process Monitor but have not been able to get anything useful of what acrodist.exe is actually doing or what it's stuck on.

Confirmed this problem exists on at least 140 of our Win7 SP1 (32 and 64-bit) machines with Acrobat XI (v11), both Standard and Pro versions affected

Sign In Required when using Classic/2015 installer

I'm trying to deploy Acrobat Standard DC.

I logged into the licensing site and downloaded Acrobat_2015_Web_WWMUI.exe (description: Acrobat DC2015 12.0 WIN ESD ALL CLASSIC )

I downloaded the Acrobat Customization Wizard DC

I wrote down the serial number from the licensing website for Acrobat 12.0 Universal English Windows LIC SN

In the CustWiz "Personalization Options" I entered the serial number (copied & pasted to make sure there were no transposition errors)

In the CustWiz "Online services and features" I checked Disable Product Updates, Disable Upsell and Disable all services

I saved the package, which created AcroPro.mst

I also did transform>generate transform and called it myInstall.mst

I've then deployed acropro.msi with TRANSFORMS="AcroPro.mst" (and also tried with MyInstall.mst) and it successfully installs the program.

I double-checked that the path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 2015\ which signifies the Classic track installer

When I try to launch Adobe Acrobat DC, I'm prompted that Sign In is Required...

According to the ETK Pre-deployment planning, granting usage rights section, it says that "Admin pre-activates for all users"

Does that mean entering the serial number in the Customization Wizard (which I've already done) or is there some other thing I have to do to activate that license/serial number so that I can avoid this whole sign-in thing and run Acrobat DC just like we have in the past?

Hide/disable the attach to email/share files

Hi - Is it possible to disable or remove these for evey user? We use Adobe Reader X. I've read a few blogs saying you should use a JavaScript but the ones I've found don't work with this version. Doesn't look like they can be removed using the registry either and even AppSense can't lock them both out. The reason for doing this is that it sometimes hangs Outlook to the point where we have to kill it in task manager.

How to Remove the "Sign In Required" that launches after install?

Hello,

Is there a Registry key change or a feature I can turn off that will remove the "Sign In Required" when you launch the Pro DC after install? If so, what is the key or where can I make this change. Or will entering a licences key on install cause this not to appear. Right now I'm waiting for a license key and have been testing this with the trial version for our enterprise.

Unable to install 11007 update via msi package

Hi,

I regularly deploy new Adobe Reader updates via GP using the msi installer. Up until today, it's always worked well.

Adobe Error.jpg

I get the above error when trying to install, but I cannot work out why. I have re-downloaded the package, re-patched it, tried running from a local disk, and still the same error occurs on all the machines I've tried installing it on. I downloaded the .exe file from the Adobe ftp site (ftp://ftp.adobe.com), extracted the .exe file and patched it using the command prompt (msiexec /a AcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd11007.msp). Older versions work fine and I know this is nothing to do with GP. It seems there is a problem with the "Data.cab" file, but the file modification date is the same as many previous versions which run fine. I'm 99% sure this is nothing to do with my systems, more over something to do with the latest patch. Anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it?

Sticking with 11006 is the only option until this is resolved.

P.S. Running the executable file installs fine, but not once I extract the .msi file and patch it.

Cheers

[Acrobat Reader DC] HKCU registry keys are not replicated for each user as for Adobe Reader

$

For Adobe Reader, all the registry keys which are added with the Adobe Customization Wizard are automatically added to each user. Unfortunately, it is not the same with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

They registry keys have to be stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\2015\Installer\Migrate to be automatically added in the HKCU of the user at its first launch of the application. But they are stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\[RegistryHiveName]\Installer\Migrate, as we can see on the screenshot below:

reg.PNG

The problem is probably coming from one of the custom actions. The variable RegistryHiveName is not translated. I didn't make a lot of research, but waiting on a solution from Adobe, I made a PowerShell script which move the registry keys to the correct place:

Move-Item -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\`[RegistryHiveName`]\Installer\Migrate\*' -Destination 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\2015\Installer\Migrate' -force

(PowerShell has to be executed in 32 Bits)

If Adobe can correct it in the next version, it would be nice !

How to update or patch Adobe Reader DC without local admin rights

$

We are about to deploy Adobe Reader DC in an enterprise environment where none of the users has local admin rights on their desktops.  Updating and patching typically requires that users are local administrators on their PC, but that is not allowed in this corporate environment.  If set to install updates automatically, do you know if Adobe Reader DC updates & patches will get installed on these computers?  If not, is there any other way to get these updates installed, either by using an Adobe tool or otherwise a 3rd party solution?

Customization Wizard Not Working on Prior Install

I am using the Acrobat Customization Wizard to disable some features and customize the install for our organization.  I had Acrobat DC installed on a workstation and I want to update the install with the new settings, so I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and it will not disable the Document Cloud features.  I have done this on several other workstations that I have already installed the out of the box software and I haven't had any issues, it is just the one workstation that I can't get it to remove that functionality.

Post Installation/Deployment Software License Agreement Suppression Acrobat X Pro

$

I just stated with a new organization and we recently [successfully] deployed Adobe Acrobat X Pro (10.1.0.534).  However, we're receiving reports (from users and IT staff alike) that when launching the application, it runs for 30 seconds or so, quits then prompts the user to accept the Adobe Software License Agreement before they can actually use the application.  Having just walked into the door, I can't confirm it was packaged with the Customization Wizard, but that is looking less & less likely.

So, having deployed this to about 2000 clients, how can we go about suppressing (read: accepting) this Acrobat Software License Agreement at an enterprise level?  (We'll figure out how, I just want to know what setting needs to be in place to eliminate this prompt.)

AdobeSoftwareLicenseAgreementPrompt.PNG

In the past (e.g.: Acrobat 7, 8 & I think 9) we were able to suppress this via a registry like:

  • reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\VERSION\AdobeViewer" /v Registered /t REG_DWORD /d 00000002 /f >>!_BatchLog! 2>>&1
  • reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\VERSION\AdobeViewer" /v EULA /t reg_dword /d 00000001 /f >>!_BatchLog! 2>>&1
  • reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\VERSION\AdobeViewer" /v EULA /t reg_dword /d 00000001 /f >>!_BatchLog! 2>>&1

But I believe either in 9 or X (10.x) EULA changed to EULAAcceptedForBrowser and with this being a 64-bit version of Windows 7, I figured it would be in one of a few places:

  1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\10.0
  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\10.0
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\10.0

I'm seeing EULAAcceptedForBrowser in the AdobeViewer key in locations 1 & 3 above so I exported both AdobeViewer keys & imported it elsewhere, but its still prompting.

So, on a whim, I added the three bulleted keys above and when launched, it worked fine.  Yay!

After about 30 seconds or so, it behaves exactly as I described above: The application launches, you can work in it, but after at most 30 seconds, the application closes and launches the licensing agreement (PDApp.exe) again.  What.  The.  Heck.

So, experts out there, what are we missing?  How can we get this resolved without doing in place reinstalls or uninstalling/installing?  We have to keep user interruption and fatigue to a minimum, and another 'deployment' is just not an option.

Acrobat 9 Silent

Can anyone give me some insight as to why Acrobat 9 Pro will not install silently. I have tried more variations of this than I can count to get it to work. The last method involved me extracting the file AcroPro90_efg.exe with UNIExtractor. I then used the Adobe Customization Wizard 9 to rebuild the package. I put the username, company name, serial, selected silent install option and a few other options, then saved the package. No matter what I try, the installation either quits without any indication as to why, or it will install but not be silent and asks me for the parameters. It seems as if the package is not reading the mst file to get the information to install silently. Even using the transforms switch does not seem to make any difference. Any one have any suggestions? TIA

Using SCCM 2012 R2 and the Adobe Customization Wizard X for Adobe Acrobat Pro unattended install. After using the Wizard the customization is not occurring. These are not working for deployment or one off installs. If I open up the Wizard it still shows all of the customization's. The "mst" file is present in the install folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Reader 11.0.03 update

Hello,

we deploy Adobe Reader on approx. 60 Clients and 18 Terminalservers through GPO. This worked fine since version 10.x.

Today I was downloading AdbeRdrUpd11003.msp and try to slipstream it into our 11.0.2 AIP. It failed stating "Another version of this product is already installed..."

I was using msiexec /a <path2msi> /p <path2msp> like i did many times before.

Lastly i was able to sucesssfully slipstream the 11.0.03-msp into a newly created AIP with 11.0.0.

However, I cannot install it on any Client. The installation abort with "Another version of this product...". In the logfile i found Errorcode 1638 which does just mean the same.

Does anyone know whats the cause of this behavior resp. what i have to look for?

The relavent parts in the msi/mst seems to be OK, except the MinVersions in the upgrade table which were set to 10.0.03.

Changing the values to 11.0.02 didn't help, still the same error.

Thanks in advance

H.

Adobe Acrobat XI Standard 11.0.10 silent install failing with error 1603

$

Hello

I just updated my AIPs for Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 Pro and Standard.  The Pro silent install is working fine.  But I cannot get the Standard install to run on Windows 7 or WIndows 8.   I have gone over every detail that I can think of or find on forums.

I use the Adobe Customization Wizard XI and choose the basic stuff to create my transform.  I don't generally enter a serial number in the customization setup but I tried that and the installation did appear to complete successfully.  But when I tried to open Acrobat it did not work.  Processes like PDapp.exe where running in a loop but never stopped.   Without a serial I get the errors below and the install fails almost immediately.   I have recreated the API and transform a few times hoping it would help.

Installing with the following line msiexec /i "%~dp0AcroStan.msi" TRANSFORMS=AcroStan.mst /qb /L*v c:\acrobat.log I get an error message that just says "error".

Application Event logs

Product: Adobe Acrobat XI Standard --  error.

Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Adobe Acrobat XI Standard. Product Version: 11.0.10. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Adobe Systems. Installation success or error status: 1603.

When I run the AcroStan.msi by itself the installation completes successfully so it would appear the issue is in customization process or the .mst file.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
