Problem opening Adobe Documents in Sharepoint 2010 /2013 - (A pointer towards a solution!)
I posted earlier in one of the Adobe Forums about an error message being generated when trying to open an Adobe Acrobat document, from a document library, in Sharepoint 2010 / sharepoint 2013.
When I try to open an Adobe document, as an ordinary user, I get the error message 'The URL cannot be reached etc..........."
However, when I log on as a user with admin rights, the above error is gone and I get the option to open the document...
Actually, I also get the option to 'Check-Out' and Open the document, in Adobe Reader. (I would prefer not to get the Check-Out option)!
So, my own opinion on this, is that the URL error message could be coming from a user-permissions issue.
On my sharepoint site, ordinary users are 'Restricted Readers' whereas, Administrator, is a 'Manager'.
I would be interested if there could be some 'happy-medium' in this, so that ordinary users, would just be given an option, to 'Open' the document. and NOT the 'Check-Out' option, displayed in Adobe Acrobat.
Its coming from a Shartepoint-permissions level, from what I have seen happening here. In Sharepoint, administrators are in the 'Manager' category whereas ordinary users, are in the 'Restricted-Readers' category, so this must be causing the initial problem.
If anyone else has view on this, I would like to hear from you.
regards,
Dan
