I am using Wizard to Customize my Adobe Reader 11 install. My question is, where in Wizard do I set the prefrence for opening PDF's outside of the browser. I just see how to configure it to open and save but nothing to set it not to open in the browser.
Reader 11 Customization Opening Outside the Browser
Acrobat 9 "Display PDF in Browser" on IE7 crashes the browser
Hi,
Here's what is happening. My company purchased a few licenses for Adobe Acrobat Professional 9, and they were installed on some of the company laptops. These laptops are in a UAC controlled SOE environment, so the employees are restricted to do any updates/installations that requires rights. The Adobe Professional 9 was installed through SCCM advertisement, and the "Display PDF in Browser" option was enabled.We discovered that when we attempt to download any pdf files off the web, the browser would stop responding/hangs during the duration of the downloads (shown at the status bar of IE), and we can only kill off the process.
The current workaround is to disable the "Display PDF in Browser" and download the file directly. However, it came to some points where the pdf documents contains some dynamic links over https on the site is is residing. In which case, the pdf have to be open to view from the secured site for the dynamic link to works.
Previously with Adobe Reader 9, we face no such issue. Only after we installed Acrobat Professional 9, this issue surfaces.
We have tried uninstalling the Reader before installing the Acrobat to prevent any chances of conflicts, problem persisted.
Here are the versions of the software involved.
Adobe Reader v9.3
Adobe Acrobat Professional v9.0.0
Internet Explorer v7.0.6002.18005
I have looked through the forums for similar cases, unless I have missed the keywords, I do not see any similar cases.
Has anyone encountered similar issues? Would appreciate if you could share on what was done to circumvent this. Thank you!

Acrobat X Suite silent installation
Acrobat Reader X Disable Protection mode
Hi All,
i need some help with this freaky Acrobat Reader X version.
We have currently ~1000 computers with different old versions of AR (form 6 to 9)
We need to upgrade to 10.0.1 version all PC's
Will use SCCM for distributing the package.
OK... everything here seems good but ... a lot of problems and erros appear.
First we've installed on test group of 10 pc's the AR 10.0.0
all users start complainig that they can't open the pdf's from our file servers.
Solution - bring the patch 10.0.1
After that all users start complaining that they can't print - Windows Error - Acrobat need to be closed !
Solution - Protection mode disabled.
My questions :
1. How can I distribute both the Package of Acrobat and the update together with SCCM
All my tries and reaings failed !!!
i've try different methods and no success
msiexec /i /q \\server\d$\Workstation Baseline\AcrobatReaderX\AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst" PATCH=\\server\d$\Workstation Baseline\AcrobatReaderX\adbeRdrUpd1001_Tier1.msp
this do not work for me This is in SCCM program
2. How can i disable through Adobe Wizard the Protection Mode ?
I know how to do it manually but is not acceptable this way - i can't communicate with 1000 users to do this manually
I know how to disable it from registry with GPO , but i can't disable it before installation, also i can't disable it on all PC's after installation, because it will take several days to complete for all pc's and this "hole" of some days will stop the work of our end-users.
Any fresh ideia is wellcome. Also any help
Thanks
Adobe Reader 11 Bootstrap method doesn't work from UNC path
Hello,
I am trying to incorporate Adobe Reader 11 for Windows as an unattended installation in a script, the same way I have Reader 10 setup using the bootstrapper installation method.
I have extracted the Reader 11 Setup executable using 7-zip after "unblocking" the file in its properties, used the Customization Wizard 11 to tweak a few options, and updated the Setup.ini accordingly (including the transform and the unattended install parameters).
Everything works great when I have the files on my desktop. When I copy the folder up to the server share where it will reside, I get an error when trying to run the setup.exe (not even using a script yet).
The error:
"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."
I have verified all the permissions, tried everything multiple times, tried using the Customization Wizard with the files on the server, and nother has worked. I have done this with Adobe Reader 10 including using the method of chaining updates in the Setup.ini quite well.
Any suggestions for things I might try?
Thanks!
Issue Installing Slipstreamed Acrobat (Pro & Standard)
Good Afternoon -
A few days ago, I slipstreamed both (Pro & Standard) of our Acrobat X installation files for deployment with SCCM. After deployment failed, I looked up things in the event log, researched solutions, and slipstreamed again. Still... same error - even when running from command line & cutting SCCM out altogether.
Below is how I did it for each of the two versions. Please tell me what's wrong...
My Acrobat X SlipStream Process
Copied Acrobat 10.x installation files to a folder local to my workstation (C:\10Stan)
- Downloaded AcrobatUpd1014.msp from Adobe's Product Update page
- Opened a command prompt as admin (running Windows 7 x64) and browsed to C:\10Stan
- Ran "msiexec /a AcroStan.msi" Once opened, clicked Next then entered "C:\XStan" for target path. Let it finish
- Ran "msiexec /a c:\XStan\AcroRead.msi /p AcrobatUpd1014.msp Once opened, clicked Next, kept default path (C:\XStan) and let it finish
- Copied setup.ini from original setup file location to C:\XStan
- Ran Acrobat X Customization Wizard and opened AcroStan.msi in C:\XStan
- Entered Serial, User, Company, Silent Install, Suppressed Reboot, DIsabled Adobe Online & others on that page
- Generated Transform. Saved as Custom.mst in C:\XStan
I copied the XStan folder to a VM with out Gold Image (Win 7 x64), opened a command prompt as admin, and typed the following command: "msiexec /i acrostan.msi TRANSFROMS=Custom.mst /q
The installation ran silently for a couple of minutes, but Adobe Icon never showed up. I checked Event Logs and found the following...
Product: Adobe Acrobat X Standard - English, Français, Deutsch -- Error 1334.The file 'adobearmhelper.exe' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'Data1.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
I researched this error, but found that my process seemed to match what everyone was saying to do...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
One more thing... Do I really need to use the Setup.ini from the original installation media? Previously, I created a setup.ini which was completely empty. When generating the transform, it added only 2 lines to it. Below are both files...
Setup.ini Created from Blank File + Generating Transform
[Startup]
CmdLine=/sall /rs
Original Setup.ini
[Startup]
RequireOS=Windows XP
RequireMSI=3.0
RequireIE=6.0.2600.0
CmdLine=/sl"1033" /sall /rs
[Product]
msi=AcroStan.msi
Languages=1033;1031;1036
1033=English (United States)
1031=German (Germany)
1036=French (France)
[Windows XP]
PlatformID=2
MajorVersion=5
MinorVersion=1
ServicePackMajor=2
[MSI Updater]
Path=WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe
I tried using both for installation, but each gave same erroneous result Thanks
Issues with Display PDF in Browser option
We've recently hit a problem with our application that used to successfully display PDFs in a web browser control. In Adobe Reader 9.x it worked no problem. In Adobe Reader 10.1.3, it stopped working. I'm working along the line that it is something to do with the interaction between the ActiveX viewer and Internet Explorer when in a Citrix environment. (IE is version 8, OS is Windows 2003 Server). To help determine it was the Citrix element that was the cause, with the 'Display PDF in Browser' option active and using Adobe Reader 10.1.3 I launched IE from a command window passing the pdf file name as an argument and the PDF was successfully displayed in the IE browser. Now Adobe Reader 10.1.4 the latter is no longer working; the PDF is always displayed in the Adober viewer.
Has Display PDF in Browser been effectively disabled in 10.1.4?
If it should work as before, what can I do to restore the situation?
TIA
Craig
Acrobat Pro 9 won't uninstall silently with Office apps running ...
I originally posted this in the regular installation problems section, but it more properly belongs here ....
We are currently (finally) upgrading our enterprise workstations to AAProX from AAPro9. However, I am having a problem with the actual upgrade process.
We are using SCCM to deploy to our workstations and it is working fine for new installations to machines with no pre-existing version of Acrobat, using the following command line:
start /wait msiexec.exe /i acropro.msi /qn TRANSFORMS=acropro.mst REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS
The .mst contains all the required customizations and the /qn switch allows the installation to complete without needing to close any MS Office apps or Internet Explorer. The REBOOT property, well, really suppresses.
Here is the problem: if a workstation has AAP9 installed, the upgrade will work just fine as long as there are no MS Office apps or Internet Explorer running. However, if any of these MS applications are open and running, the upgrade fails. It seems that, even though the installer can handle open applications to install the new AAPX, the part that handles the removal of the earlier version of AAP cannot deal with open MS apps and fails.
I've spent a lot of time searching and tried a couple of things, as follows, but with no resolution:
- separate command line for removal of AAP9
start /wait msiexec.exe /x {AC76BA86-1033-F400-7760-000000000004} /qn REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS
- added properties to both separate command lines to attempt to suppress the user interface for the application pop-ups (as suggested other sites)
start /wait msiexec.exe /x {AC76BA86-1033-F400-7760-000000000004} /qn UIMODE="NO" REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS
start /wait msiexec.exe /i acropro.msi /qn UIMODE="NO" TRANSFORMS=acropro.mst REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS
- I found the UPGRADINGPRODUCTCODE Property on another Adobe forum page, but it didn't perform as it was suggested it would.
start /wait msiexec.exe /x {AC76BA86-1033-F400-7760-000000000004} /qn UPGRADINGPRODUCTCODE=1 REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS
start /wait msiexec.exe /i acropro.msi /qn UPGRADINGPRODUCTCODE=1 TRANSFORMS=acropro.mst REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS
I've looked at the Direct Edit section in the Customization tool for the different 'Ignore' actions, but I don't really understand what they would actually do, so I backed away from that for now, in hopes that someone has some magic beans to offer here. Ideally there is a property or a quick custom action that can be added to the .mst file. We have about 300 installs to upgrade, so I would rather not have to beg or plead or force close all of the different MS processes for that many users.
I've also run the Acorbat Cleaner tool, which works fine but requires a machine restart before the installation of AAPX. I'm really trying to make this work without having to intrude on the users' work day. After hours could work, but forced restarts when they aren't there could cause data loss and users hate IT enough already. Would really like to make it clean.
So, I need some in terms of how to get AAP9 to uninstall silently without having to close the open apps, if it's possible at all. Many thanks in advance for any help.
Any light at the end of this tunnel would be most appreciated.
Adobe Reader msi file lock behavior
Currently when running the install silently and the installation is unable to modify a file due to a file lock it's default behavior is to back out and exit\abort. Is there a way to have the installation retry rather than immediately exiting? I suppose this may be more of a question for Microsoft since Adobe's install is an msi but I figured I would ask here anyways.
How to not allow users to check or uncheck Enable Protected Mode
I know how to change the HKLM\Software\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Reader\10.0\FeatureLockDown\bProtectedMode to '1' to set the 'Enable Protected Mode at startup', but how do you disable to checkbox altogether so that users cannot change it?
.PDF File Association for All User Profiles
Hello. I am currently working on a deployment of Adobe Acrobat X Professional. The deployment works folllowing this process:
- Remove Foxit Reader
- Install Adobe Acrobat X Professional (Which removes Adobe Acrobat 8)
- Run command >>> assoc .pdf = "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" "%1"
Foxit removes itself fine, Acrobat 8 gets removed, and Acrobat X is installed, the only issue is PDF files are not associated with Acrobat X. If you choose to open the pdf in a browser it opens in Acrobat fine, but if you have a PDF saved somewhere it pops up asking what program to open it with.
I am looking for a way to associate PDF files with Adobe Acrobat X Professional across all user profiles. I thought the command assoc .pdf = "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" "%1" was going to be my solution but it does not work, even though it runs fine.
Any ideas / advice is greatly appreciated, even if you point out that I am doing something complety incorrect.
Thanks,
Larry

Acrobat pro X error: Cannot use this product under a guest account
We are installing acrobat pro with GP on XP systems. The install goes fine but on some users machines when they launch the program it comes back with
"Cannot use this product under a guest account". The users are admins on the system. If I uninstall acrobat pro 10 and reinstall in manually the same error happens. (note these systems had acrobat pro 9 installed, but was un-installed with the acrobat pro 10 MST)
Does Acrobat XI used w\ XenApp 6.5 conflict with "auto creation of client printers"?
Hey guys,
I have installed Adobe Acrobat Pro XI on a Server 2008 box running XenApp 6.5. I've noticed a pattern that whenever Reader or Acrobat v10 or greater is installed the "auto-create client printers" policy does not work. Our users log in to the web portal and open an app(Citrix hosted) such as Word; they try to print a document, but when looking at the printer drop-down list, none of their local(redirected) printers are present. These printers were available before the installation of Acrobat Pro XI. Another user noticed this happened previously when they upgraded from Adobe Reader 9 to X. Please let me know if you have any helpful information.
I've enabled the following:
- Client Printer Redirection(allowed)
- Auto-Create Client Printers(all client printers)
- Client Printer Names(standard names)
- Default Printer(set def printer to client main)
- Desktop Launches(allowed) ***This policy was the only one present before i started troubleshooting the missing redirected printers.
- Printer auto-creation event log preference(log errors and warnings)
Repackaging AcroPro x1 silently
I am trying to repackage AcroPro 11 Silently and I am using msiexec /i path\AcroPro.msi /qb! is giving me a weird error. Also I tried with path\setup.exe /sAll is giving the same error. It says "xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx error" what is this error please, I have never seen this type of error. Please help.
Installing Acrobat X Pro using GPO
I've created GPO to install Adobe Acrobat X Pro on the network computers, and used computer configuration but the application didn't get installed. The software is compatible with Windows 7 64bit for some reason it installs the 32bit as it is showing x86 platform in the properties.
I've tried to create another GPO for software 64bit to test if I'm doing the right steps and it worked. I suspect it has to do to the 64bit and 32bit.
Any clue how to make it work?
Cannot combine PDF's w/Acrobat X (SBS 2011 domain)
All systems running Win 7 Professional. We've manually added DEP exclsuion for Acrobat X Pro, and even tried running the app as administrator.
No matter what we do we continue to get a DEP error (see attached). We've also disabled anti-virus as well to no avail.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert
AdobePDF.dll needed from Adobe Acrobat CD during install - what?!
Greetings,
We bought a site license at considerable expense to update our users to the latest Acrobat (too many people not patching and getting viruses). I'm trying to push out via SCCM (uninstall previous version via Adobe Customization Wizard) and when I try to update users running anything other than 9.0.0 I get a message that it needs the dll file in my subject. It is not extracting the file from the data1.cab file and dropping it where the old version was previously. The only option so far is to have people browse to the file (out on a server somewhere) so the install can continue. This is unacceptable because 500 (out of 5000 we are trying to upgrade) people will get a pop up asking this when we are upgrading in the background (and they won't know why). Is there a way I can tell the installer to use the extracted cab file (which I could extract beforehand)? This is driving me insane and it isn’t making my boss very happy either. He feels he wasted $$ if we have to "sneakernet" to all these machines. Anyone have any ideas or who I can call at Adobe? My first attempt at tech support with them was laughable.
The URL you have provided could not be reached. Please verify that the URL is... Acrobat/SP2010
The following error is produced in Acrobat when trying to click version history documents in SharePoint 2010. "The URL you have provided could not be reached. Please verify that the URL is correct and that the network location is reachable." The revision of the document is reachable, but through typical HTTP via a web browser...but not through the SharePoint <==> Acrobat X Pro COM object magic that works fine for currently checked out documents. Please see inserted image. Thoughts on a fix?
Acrobat Standard & Professional XI MSI Download Locations?
Hello,
I am currently trying to figure out where I can find the the MSI version for the Acrobat installers. I checked on our LWS site , and seems like we are only offered the .EXE version. I also checked on the FTP site and found the one for Reader but nothing for Acrobat...I contacted customer support didn't get anywhere. Can anyone offer any help on this?
Thanks
